Several artists try to convey our ever-changing world by mixing historical and fictional events. Walls are labeled with titles “Climax Crisis” “Ice Caps Melt,” and “Tomorrow the World” as red tape links the different “periods” creating a sort of timeline or channel from each artist’s work. Absorbing history, science and religion, artists try to define the past and future. In “Tower of Tongues,” sketched photos of children are mutated, playing with gender roles. Carla Gannis’ “The Intelligent Design Circus” constructs a blown-up photo of people watching a circus while a man holds a cord attached to a mechanical naked woman. Michael Zansky uses real maps of military infantry and puts grotesque images over them. Visual art is omnipresent beginning with Kristin Anderson’s “You are What You Do.” Occupational titles displayed underneath photos of a prosaic man and woman change every few seconds. Gerhard Mentz, Ellen Sandor and Chris Kemp produce trance-inducing hologram spheres and scenic scenes of palm trees on an untainted island. Catherine Forster’s puts filmed footage of nature in boxes with sound effects and blurs magnified photos of tree leaves. Impossible to describe, “Intelligent Design” is cerebral and challenging filled with many details and observations. (Garin Pirnia) Through November 24 at KASIA KAY
