Various Artists, “Reunion,” graffiti. Second Floor gallery premieres its first show, “Reunion,” with established Chicago graffiti artists Demon, Zore, Rawfa, Nyke and Hyde. The work showcases the result of graffiti’s balancing act between the street and the gallery. The majority continues to incorporate the intricate nature and brilliant color of traditional graffiti while including more imagery than text, such as the South American-influenced mystical work of Hyde and fresh takes on portraiture by Rawfa. The space is run by Mario Gonzalez Jr. and has hopes of becoming the premier spot for graffiti work in Chicago. With writers like Zore and Demon, who have been writing for more than fifteen years, this is a plausible reality.
