The first time you see a piece of art created by the famed Colombian painter, sculptor and draughtsman Fernando Botero, you won’t exactly know how to react. You will be beckoned to laugh, look away, wonder, judge. In other words, experience the same sensations that ripple through a person’s mind when they can’t help but stare at something unnatural; something different and out of the ordinary. However, when the shock wears off, it will be impossible not to marvel at how one man can bring so much life, humor and sadness out of characters that, while otherwise normal, have been inflated to abnormal proportions. Having his art displayed throughout the world’s most prestigious museums, and sculptures exhibited in, among other places—the Champs-Elysées in Paris and Michigan Avenue here in Chicago—the KN Gallery is offering an intimate and rare glimpse of an artist who possesses the rare ability to bring a viewer into his world: a strange, but fascinating, baroque universe where an individual’s disposition is seemingly expressed through an individual’s diameter.
