Though a law-school graduate, Lauri Apple realized that there is still a lot to learn about the government. Given the spirit of the campaign season, she focused her inquiries on previous vice presidents. “I studied history and law and there are all these guys in the number-two seat that I couldn’t tell you anything about,” she says. Apple created lappleveeps.blogspot.com as a venue to post her portraits of the U.S.’s vice presidents each day until November 4. Along with each portrait is an “informal, yet informative” history of the former politicians. “There’s value in studying history and learning about people from our past,” Apple says. “I think it’s important to know as much as possible, what they were facing and how they handled the important issues of the day from Civil War to economic crises.”
