RECOMMENDED
For the second annual group photography show honoring the memory of former director of Around the Coyote Mary Beth Cregier, curator Catherine Edelman has chosen images by nineteen emerging Chicago-area photographers that embrace a number of approaches and genres, yet create an overall sense of estrangement with more than a hint of the bizarre. No one conveys empty loneliness better than Jane Fulton Alt in her small-format color study of a man’s arm extended on the back of a vacant seat on a faded dull-brown sofa. If you prefer your alienation in black-and-white with a twist of terror, look through the cross-hairs of a rifle sight at a forlorn wheel barrow and a broom in a scruffy yard surrounded by brooding trees, compliments of Sarah Beckstrom.
