The Franklin, an alternative gallery space in East Garfield Park, was a 2012 Propeller Fund recipient
Now in its fifth year, the Propeller Fund is offering two info sessions in advance of the August 1 deadline for 2014 applications. The first one is June 18 at the Hyde Park Art Center at 6 pm (5020 South Cornell). Grant administrator Abigail Satinsky will give a presentation that provides a basic overview of the application, offer discussion about eligibility for the award, and stick around for a Q&A.
The Propeller Fund is part of a regional re-granting program through the Andy Warhol Foundation, and is jointly administered by Threewalls (where Satinsky is associate director) and UIC’s Gallery 400. Each year the fund distributes awards to small, self-organized art operations to support public programming in Chicago that could include curatorial projects, open studio events, publications, performances, screening and lectures, web-based projects and other means of engaging a diverse public. Last year, fifteen projects received funding at two levels: $2,000 and $6,000.
Another info session will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 6 pm, at Threewalls (119 North Peoria). Satinsky is also available for individual consultations during gallery hours, Tuesday-Friday, 11am-5pm. (Matt Morris)
