Another Idea
(Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry)
The Gray Center takes the ubiquitous virtual art exhibition one step further with a knockout conceptual group show featuring perennial favorites like Pope.L and Susan Hiller. The works include a participatory website by Philip von Zweck on artificial birds in Chicago, a dance party on the moon hosted by Kyle Bellucci Johanson and images encompassing Cauleen Smith’s “COVID Manifesto,” one of which reads: “The internet is not the answer.” Detroit artist Chelsea A. Flowers’ karaoke-style video is particularly indelible, caustically pronouncing that the race and power dynamics of the art world make segregation appealing.
